Los Sueños Resort and Marina is located in a perfect place for fishermen, next to Herradura Beach, in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica, in the province of Puntarenas. The waters of this coast are full of the most desired species, with yellowfin tuna that exceed 300 pounds, goldfish of more than 40 pounds and one of the highest concentrations of Pacific sailfish, in addition to abundant populations of black, blue marlin and striped, wahoo, red snapper and roosterfish.
The construction of Los Sueños began in 1997. It was an initiative of the Californian promoter William Royster. The hotel and the complex's golf course were opened in 2000. Today Los Sueños has more than 550 luxury residences and a top-level hotel.
Marina Los Sueños was the first marina approved by the government of Costa Rica. It is equipped with 200 moorings, and 116 spaces outside the water and a fuel dock. It has 24-hour staff. Their moorings accommodate vessels of 30 to 180 feet in length, while dry storage spaces allow vessels of less than 30 feet to be accommodated.
Marina Los Sueños receives visitors and fishermen from all over the world, although the main nationality is North American, the same as its founder.
The fishing season in Costa Rica lasts all year. Sailfish and black, blue and striped marlin can be caught mainly from December to June. Near Los Sueños they have chopped giant marlins of around 750 pounds or even more.
Los Sueños Marina has been organizing fishing tournaments since 2004. With a prize of $100,000, in 2014 the first edition of the famous sport fishing competition “Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown” was held. In that first edition alone, a total of 2,154 copies of sailfish and marlin were caught. Since its inception, more than 35,000 copies of sailfish have been fished and released. “Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown” has become one of the largest sport fishing events in Latin America.
